How To Play Ntsc Games On Pal Ps2
My brother bought me a new game for his NTSC PS2, and didn't realize that it was a PAL format game and would not work on the NTSC PS2. I've tried searching for an answer, but there seems to be multiple solutions. I would really like to know how to be able to play the PAL game using the simplest and easiest. My brother bought me a new game for his NTSC PS2, and didn't realize that it was a PAL format game and would not work on the NTSC PS2. I was just wondering whether Sony had any plans to release an update which will enable you to play NTSC PS2 games on a PAL PS3.
Thanks so much. Best Answer: There really isn't an easy way to go about it. You could try looking up 'Swap Magic' which is a way to be able to play the game by inserting a 'start-up' disk into your console and then swapping it out with the game you want to play, but that involves too much hassle, in my opinion, because you'd have to do that every time you want to play the game. My solution would be to take it to a tech/repair shop and ask if they are able to 'mod' your PS2. This involves opening up your console and soldering a 'mod-chip' onto the circuit board. You run the risk of completely frying your console if you don't know what you're doing, which is why I recommended taking it to a shop.
The chip has to be specific for your PS2 (need to look up model number and console version v1, v2. But once the process is done you should be able to pop in any game from anywhere in the world and play it, as well as any movie from anywhere in the world. Even copied & bootleg games will work on it. Of course, if you want the cheapest and easiest way of all just go get the game in an NTSC version.
Hope it helps. Simple answer: No. The only way to play PAL games on an NTSC PS2 is to mod the PS2, or buy a PAL PS2 (all PS2 games are region locked). There is no way around this. Modding the PS2 makes it region free, which then allows you to play PS2 games from anywhere in the World. The PAL / NTSC video issue has no bearing on if the game will play or not, it is the region restriction hardware in the PS2 and the game that makes it unplayable.
Japan uses NTSC as well, but you can't play their games on a North American PS2 either, because of the region lock on the games, unless you mod the PS2. Modding the PS2 requires taking it apart and modding the motherboard with a chip (also known as chipping a PS2), it is not a simple software issue. Tell us some more. Upload in Progress.
