Local gunshop hasn't heard of the X7 series? BTW, new Savages-I think he means the Savage Axis, as he's getting over the 770-do not have the AccuTrigger. From the examples I've handled, the Edge/Axis has got to be the cheapest quality gun I've ever seen-and that includes the 770. The best buy for your money would be 1) Marlin X7 if you're planning on spending about $300; 2) Howa 1500 if you're planning on spending $400; and 3) Tikka T3 if you're planning on spending $500. Savages are a seriously obselete design (assuming you mean the 110 series), are overpriced for the features they offer (well, so are Tikkas), and are just plain ugly-I mean every Savage in productino today.Ugly is a personal subjective opinion.
My 10 y/o daughter picked which rifles she liked and she wanted camp/stainless. We looked at various models, and it was the Gander Mtn exclusive camo/stainless Savage for the win. She loves it.270 too. Personally I'm pleased with the quality when comparingt to same price. $300 OTD NIB is a good investmant to get another youth in the field. If getting her something that appeals to her helps, worth every penny. Ugly is a personal subjective opinion.

If your daughter liked the Savage, by all means get it and ignore me.
