Hi Lermomma, Canon 20D is compatible with Windows 7. Did you download the drivers for Canon 20D from here?: It's best to let Windows install drivers for your hardware automatically. You should avoid manually updating a driver unless Windows is unable to find a driver for one of your devices but you were able to obtain one some other way, or if technical support personnel ask you to install drivers from a disc or from the device manufacturer's website. If you decide to manually update a driver, here's how: Some devices need to be manually installed You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

  1. Canon Eos 20d Windows 10
  2. Drivers & Downloads

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.‌ Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. In Device Manager, locate the device you want to update, and then double-click the device name.

(On my previous hard drive (XP) the EOS Utility would open when I connected 20D so I could choose RAW files to download.) Suggestions?

Try this for starters: Start/Control Panel/AutoPlay and then check the box at the top that says.Use AutoPlay for all media and devices. Your 20D should show in the taskbar when you connect and turn on the camera.

You should get some options when you click on the taskbar icon. I don't like to have AutoPlay turned on and for downloads I use a card reader in combination with Zoombrowser. With a card reader or a direct connection to the camera, connect the camera to the computer and turn it on, open Zoombrowser and at the top left, click the double arrow where it says Tasks and select Acquire and Camera Settings and then select Connect EOS Camera.

Unless you need to install the driver to shoot & download live, just use a card reader to d/l from the card. Needs no special drivers or software, it's faster, and won't depend on camera batteries.

With the move from EU 2.4 to EU 2.5, Canon withdrew support for a number of earlier EOS bodies, even including 1D-series bodies. In line with this, the relevant drivers (for bodies that need drivers) have not been updated for recent releases of Windows. As other posters have said, this is not a problem for image transfer – just use a card reader – but it does prevent owner name setting and tethered shooting. When I needed to change the owner name on a 5D (original) to allow its owner to sell it, I tried using XP Mode under W7 but could not get that to work (although it does work for some other legacy USB devices), and finally dug out an old XP laptop and put the original 5D software on it, successfully. Owners of early 1D-series bodies are even worse off because they have to use a FireWire connection for tethering, so they need an XP machine with FireWire.
