Fan-edited filler-free arcs. For those 'what music was used at this time in this episode' questions. Same day release as Japan!!!. quality release. 'quality', limited time release. High quality collection.

Only goes back to Chapter 717. Official Shueisha Colored Chapters. This subreddit is night mode compatible. I officially support the series for a cheap monthly rate, get access to 1080p a few hours after simulcast, get non-shit subs, and also access to tons of other great series at 1080p as well. Torrenting does not support the official release. In days past, torrenting/downloading pirate subs was the only way to get One Piece. I'll be the first to admit I watched the series illegally for the longest time.

Dem Kaizoku Fansubs. But, the second the backlog of episodes became legally available, I ceased watching illegal streams and began supporting the official release. I know One Piece is about pirates and all, but I have very little to no respect for people who continue to watch illegal streams/pirate the series. Doing so only hurts official releases of anime in the Western world.

(Note: All of this is only relevant for those who do live in a place where the official release is available. If you do not, then pirate away for as long as that is the case.) Pirating anime is an outdated concept (for series with an official release in your country), and I have a hard time finding it to be morally defensible.

I would love to discuss this with anyone. I speak Japanese. The simulcasts translations are typically on point.

It is not that often I see a translation that I would consider to be in error, as opposed to just translator's choice (to localize the meaning). The majority of the backlog episodes translations are on point, and very close in quality to the DVDs. As I understand it, the subs used in the backlogs are the official subs given to Crunchyroll by Toei (someone correct me if this is not the case). Phantasm plugin serial. I am not sure about the simulcasts.

I think they are done by CR (?). Therefore, they are usually good quality. Only one arc, the Impel Down arc, suffers in sub quality compared to the DVDs.

The translations in that arc are straightup horrible, and for that arc alone I support watching fansubs (so that the experience is not ruined for the viewer), at least until the subs are brought up to snuff. I have reported all errors I saw to Crunchyroll, one by one, during a high definition rewatch of that arc, as that was the only way I could watch it without getting pissed off by the blatant mistranslations. But aside from Impel Down, CRs backlog subs provided by Toei are very good, and in my opinion, better than most fansubs out there.

I am fine with people that choose to illegally download anime. While I agree that it is important to officially support the series, I feel that some (not all) fansub groups offer a superior product when you compare their releases to the official release. As an example, I am a huge fan of the stylized subtitles that the better fansubbers out there use. They add an extra layer of excitement to my One Piece experience.

If I felt that the official releases were an equivalent product, I would gladly start paying for it. For example, I do feel that you get more out of the official manga releases than reading it online for free (mainly because of the SBS corner where Oda answers questions from the fans.

Some really interesting questions have been answered). As such, I have purchased every translated volume that is currently out, and will continue to do so until the series ends. While I do agree that different subtitles use different fonts/styleizations, I do not think that is sufficient reason to illegally download anime. Some people find them distracting, some people like them, but that is not by itself enough to justify a crime in my opinion (the fact that the crime is not punished, often, is not relevant). Part of the reason that anime subbing can sometimes be low quality even for official releases is because fans are not vocal about when they are not content with the subtitles, through the appropriate channels.

They complain about it on an online forum (nothing wrong with that), but instead of complaining to the company, they just go to an illegal source instead. If enough fans of One Piece (or other anime) asked for stylized subtitles, then companies would comply. Supply and demand. The problem is that the companies are not aware of the demand if we just short-circuit the system by taking illegal actions.
