You should find a tutorial on compressing that, it'd help with the lag a bit. I'd link you, but I haven't quite figured out how tabs work on my new phone. Sorry Personally I try to use packages, or use a converter to convert sims3packs to packages. In fact, the only CC in my launcher is store content, worlds & houses, or CC that came on sims I downloaded because you can't convert a.sim to.package.

Or st least I haven't found how yet. Any hair or clothes I download I convert to package if I need to, then compress by creator. So instead of having like 50 newsea package files i have one merged/compressed newea file that contains all of them. It makes it less that the game needs to try and run. It's a round-about process to convert Sims to put the files into your game and one I'd only recommend in a worst-case scenario, as in they simply won't install because of corrupted files in them or some such. What you do is use the Sims3Pack Multi-installer and extract everything to a staging area folder then use S3PE to figure out which are the Sims and which is the CC. Once you have the Sim isolated then change its extension from.package to.sim and put it into your SavedSims folder. It is both tedious and time-consuming.

I much prefer running lots I've downloaded through the Sims3Pack Cleaner to make sure they don't have CC in them then extract the lots as.package files. As long as there's only one file in the Sims3Pack file the multi-installer will even name the extracted.package file the same for you which makes it much easier to manage the lots I've downloaded. Sometimes I want a particular batch of lots in my game and other times I don't. Since they have sensible names it's easy to drag them into a sub-folder in the Library folder where the game can't read them. Then if I want to use them I pull them back out into the main Library folder. Thanks everyone! I had about 600 files reinstalled through launcher.i would imagine it would cause lag.so after some testing today I might take them out and only install the store and houses through launcher and rest through packages and see how that works out.

The amount of content and how it's installed isn't generally the culprit when it comes to game lag. It mostly affects how long it takes the game to load. I asked a very knowledgeable person about this a while back because I was thinking about extracting a good portion of my store content into.package files then merging them. He said it won't make a dime's worth of difference because as it is they're already in merged files. I have noticed that over time of installing through the launcher (please keep in mind I only have a single piece of CC that's installed this way-everything else is worlds and store content) the installation process gets slower and slower.

Game lag is caused by a whole lot of other things including: If you have a good enough video card, not using something to limit how many FPS it's running in your game. Routing problems on the world level (this kind of thing is solved by using EllaCharmed's fixes for Maxis worlds and making sure you only download custom worlds from experienced builders). Cars stacking up in Sims' inventories (the inventories alone are big culprits and if you play multiple households their personal inventory goods should frequently be moved into some type of storage) and use Overwatch to clean up excess vehicles. Using NRAAS Story Progression with a world with more Sims than your computer can easily handle. Elevators and NPC apartments can also cause problems. These are just the possible causes I can think of right now-there are more possibilities.

Can anyone explain to me why package files are better? I honestly don't get it. After placing a bunch of them in mods, how do you know which one works and which one doesn't? That was my issue before. I had to do a game reinstall because i noticed some of my package files don't show up in game. For an example, I downloaded a few skin tones and blushes.

Went in game and check them out, saw that only one or two of what i got was actually there. Now i'm lost because i don't know which files didn't work. Firstly, did you make sure to run the Dashboard tool on all your.package files to look for possible conflicts and/or corrupted files?

That should be the first thing anyone does after putting.package files into their games. If nothing shows up there then it's really down to some steps of some trial and error and a process I really don't have the time right now to explain. As for why a lot of people think.package files are better I can't say overall. I can say very quickly why I prefer them. Don't need the launcher to install them, just extract the files from an archive and drag and drop and they're there.

Vaio update installation failed. The launcher becomes extremely bloated with everything installed through it and gets slower and slower over time. If I decide I no longer want a piece of CC I've put into my game in.package format all I need to do is navigate to said file and either remove it or delete it from my game.

The launcher eventually gets to a point where you can't even see everything it has installed and even if you can find it, it can take minutes to remove a single item and it never really deletes it from the DCCache, just removes the ability to see it in your game. With.package (or in the case of Sims.sim files) files I'm only installing the content I want in my game, not potentially a ton of CC that someone decided needed used with what I've downloaded. I'm not kidding, I've downloaded Sims from the exchange where the file size was 50 megs and over because of CC. I mean really? I want to waste that much time downloading plus the extra space on my hard-drive for storing what is basically garbage to me? Okay, really do have to run! I find package files easy to organize.

Merging helps with reducing load times. There is a limit to how much you can merge. Merging patterns and mods is not recommended. I convert sims3packs to package files with Multi Installer. The more stuff you have installed through your launcher the more sluggish and slow upon launching it becomes. This can be a chore for anyone that can't bypass the launcher.

I use my launcher for store stuff and patterns. You can convert store stuff into package files but I've heard that can break some items. Can anyone explain to me why package files are better? If you have this much stuff it would be a good idea to consider merging. (linked in my last post) All defaults go in the Default folder so that I can easily switch them out. Modify for mods. CAS and BuildBuy for all of the stray pieces of CC from sites I will probably never download from again. The sites I visit the most have a folder.

The only thing that I would improve on is adding the site link in a word document. If you're installing chunks of CC at a time, make a folder just for testing. I find package files easy to organize. I have my patterns that I made in.package file format with Delphy's tool, long before the official pattern packager tool was created, all merged with no problems at all.

If memory serves, though, if patterns are created with the official tool and come in Sims3Pack files they don't work correctly if they're extracted. Mods should absolutely never be merged.

When it comes to store items I believe it's only the Premium items that will break if extracted. If it's just regular hair, clothing and furniture it works just fine. Can anyone explain to me why package files are better? I honestly don't get it.

You can organize package files in the Mods Packages folder.

So you can put new ones in a 'New' folder and check in game to see if they show up. I also find it easier to tell what a package file is by opening it in S3PE and looking at IMG previews for the textures used. Package files are also incredibly easy to install and remove. Creating a new Sims 3 folder in Documents and putting 5-10 packages files at a time to identify them is actually doable. Additionally, for hair and clothing, you can edit the categories they show up in, and whether they are valid for random (i.e. Inactives) with S3PE.

If CC is installed via sims3packs you can use Easy CASP editor to customize the categories and valid for random setting. That works for base game, EPs (and maybe SP stuff) too. Doesn't work for Store content though.
